Wema Bank is marking the 9th anniversary of ALAT by Wema, Africa’s first fully digital bank, celebrating nearly a decade of reshaping the banking experience for Nigerians.
Introduced in 2017, ALAT emerged as a forward-thinking solution to the inefficiencies of traditional banking—long queues, physical limitations, and slow service delivery. By removing these hurdles, the platform reimagined banking as fast, seamless, and entirely digital, allowing users to open accounts, carry out transactions, and manage finances anytime and from anywhere.

Over the years, ALAT has grown from a convenience-driven tool into a robust digital ecosystem tailored to individuals, businesses, and a new wave of financially savvy users. With features such as ALAT Goals for structured savings, simplified payment options, and broader access to financial services, the platform has continued to drive financial inclusion while meeting evolving customer needs.
This steady innovation has positioned ALAT as more than just a banking app, but a dynamic platform that evolves alongside its users.
To celebrate the milestone, Wema Bank has rolled out the “ALAT at 9” campaign—a lineup of customer-focused activities, rewards, and interactive experiences aimed at appreciating users and boosting engagement.
As part of the celebration, customers can explore their personalized “ALAT Wrapped,” a visual summary of their journey on the app, which can be downloaded and shared on social media.
Users can also take part in the “9 Features in 9 Days” challenge by interacting with selected features daily. Completing all nine tasks unlocks rewards, encouraging consistent usage of the platform.
Additionally, customers who complete their 9th transaction at exactly 9:00 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. stand a chance to receive instant rewards.
The campaign also includes the ALAT Evolution Jingle Challenge, where participants are invited to compose and submit a second verse of the ALAT jingle for a chance to win prizes.
Speaking on the anniversary, the Managing Director and CEO of Wema Bank, Moruf Oseni, said the milestone reflects both progress made and the bank’s future direction. He noted that the initiative is designed to reward customers while strengthening the bank’s commitment to innovation and user experience.
Also commenting, the Chief Digital Officer, Olusegun Adeniyi, explained that the campaign blends everyday banking with interactive engagement, using personalized insights and gamified activities to create a more engaging and rewarding experience.
The anniversary campaign will run from May 2 to May 31, with customers encouraged to log into the app, complete tasks, and unlock rewards.
Existing users can participate by updating the ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and signing in, while new users can download the app and get started within minutes.
With “ALAT at 9,” Wema Bank continues to strengthen its position in digital banking, offering not just financial services but an evolving platform that grows with its users while rewarding them at every stage
