At least six suspected bandits were killed after security operatives successfully thwarted an attempted assault on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in the Kanoma District of Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar.

Abubakar explained that the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday when a large number of armed criminals stormed the communities, wielding sophisticated weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades, general-purpose machine guns, anti-aircraft guns and AK-47 rifles.
Following a distress alert, a combined security team comprising police tactical personnel from the Maru Division, troops of Operation Fansar Yamma, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit, and local vigilante groups was immediately deployed to the affected area.
According to the police spokesman, the security forces engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing them to abandon their mission and retreat.
“The operatives successfully repelled the attack and neutralised six bandits who were travelling on two motorcycles,” Abubakar stated.
He further disclosed that several other suspects fled into nearby forests with suspected gunshot injuries, while no casualties were recorded among residents or members of the security team.
To prevent further threats, security presence has been strengthened across the area, with continuous patrols underway to reassure residents and track down the fleeing criminals.
Abubakar reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence.
The latest operation comes less than a day after security personnel repelled another bandit attack in Anka Local Government Area, where a two-hour gun battle reportedly took place along the Gadar Manya axis.
