Presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga, has called for the prosecution of social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, over the circulation of an alleged fake audio recording linked to President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting through his verified X account, @aonanuga1956, on Wednesday, Onanuga accused the influencer of misusing social media platforms by spreading misleading content capable of deceiving the public and tarnishing the President’s reputation.

According to the presidential spokesman, VDM should be made to answer for distributing what he described as a doctored audio recording of Tinubu.
“This VDM must be made to face legal consequences for circulating and promoting a fake audio involving President Tinubu. It represents a serious misuse of social media,” Onanuga wrote.
He further maintained that the recording had been manipulated, warning that the circulation of unverified content could undermine public confidence, threaten national security, and weaken democratic institutions. He stressed that individuals responsible for spreading such materials should be prosecuted in line with the law.
VDM had earlier shared an audio clip which he alleged captured Tinubu speaking about Nigeria’s political climate, insecurity in the South-East, and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Before playing the recording, the influencer questioned Nigerians, saying, “After listening to this audio, I want to know if those supporting Tinubu for 2027 have been deceived or if they are comfortable with it.”
The audio, which later went viral online, allegedly featured a voice said to belong to the President claiming that efforts to remove him from office would not succeed. The recording also purportedly suggested that addressing insecurity in the South-East could negatively affect the electoral chances of his political party.
