A newborn baby girl, barely 12 hours old, has reportedly died during a Boko Haram attack on communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, turning a family’s moment of joy into a heartbreaking tragedy.
The infant, who was delivered only hours before the incident, reportedly suffocated amid the panic that erupted when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Bambatsu and Ngadarma villages in Mbalala Ward on Thursday evening.

According to local sources, the baby’s mother, still recovering from childbirth and too weak to escape, was unable to flee when the gunmen invaded the communities.
In an attempt to protect herself, she reportedly sought refuge in a toilet facility, while the newborn was left helpless in the confusion. The child later died before any assistance could be provided.
Residents believe the attackers were members of the same insurgent group responsible for the recent assault on Mussa Primary and Secondary Schools in Askira-Uba Local Government Area. The terrorists reportedly stormed Bambatsu and Ngadarma around 7:00 p.m. before moving toward the nearby Mussa community.
Beyond the loss of the infant, six other residents were killed in the coordinated attacks—five in Bambatsu and one in Ngadarma. The assailants also set several homes ablaze and destroyed food supplies and livestock.
Reacting to the incident, community member Paul Mauntayhaga expressed deep sorrow over the casualties, especially the death of the newborn.
He disclosed that five people were killed in Bambatsu, while another victim lost their life in Ngadarma during the attack.
Mauntayhaga explained that Sangula Happy’s wife had given birth to a baby girl only 12 hours before the assault, but the child died amid the fear, confusion, and absence of immediate medical attention as residents scrambled to escape.
He added that the grieving mother remains physically weak and emotionally devastated by the loss of her newborn daughter.
According to him, all the victims of the attack were laid to rest on Friday in line with their religious customs.
