The Lagos State Drivers Institute has launched two new training centres in Oshodi and Apapa to expand access to driver education and strengthen road safety awareness across the state.
The newly established centres are situated at the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat in Oshodi and at No. 5 Adele Road, off Warehouse Road, Apapa.

During an inspection visit to the facilities, LASDRI General Manager, Afusat Tiamiyu, explained that the locations were carefully chosen due to the heavy traffic volume and intense vehicular movement within the Oshodi and Apapa areas.
She noted that motorists operating along the busy corridors require targeted training to help them navigate congestion safely, reduce accidents and obey traffic laws.
According to Tiamiyu, the institute has witnessed increasing demand for organised and detailed driver training programmes focused on vehicle control, defensive driving techniques and compliance with road regulations.
She stressed that proper driver education is crucial in helping motorists understand traffic signs, maintain lane discipline and avoid penalties or vehicle seizures resulting from traffic violations.
Tiamiyu further stated that professional training enhances drivers’ ability to detect hazards and improve spatial judgment, especially when driving around articulated trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles frequently seen in the Apapa axis.
She described Oshodi and Apapa as critical commercial and transport centres where motorists regularly encounter complicated traffic systems, BRT lanes and the activities of commercial transport operators.
According to her, such environments demand skilled instructors who can train drivers to anticipate reckless road behaviour and move safely through congested routes.
Also speaking, Director Munirudeen Bajulaiye disclosed that each of the new centres can accommodate about 25 participants per training session and is equipped with administrative and convenience facilities.
