Chelsea FC have confirmed the dismissal of head coach Liam Rosenior, ending his short spell at Stamford Bridge just months after his mid-season appointment.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the club thanked the 41-year-old and his coaching staff for their efforts, commending his professionalism and conduct during his time in charge.

However, it stressed that recent performances had fallen below the required standard, despite key objectives still within reach this season.
Rosenior was appointed in January 2026 following the departure of Enzo Maresca, arriving with a reputation as a progressive and tactically astute coach after spells with Hull City, Derby County, and Strasbourg.
He initially brought stability and encouraging results, with improved organisation, discipline, and team cohesion. However, that momentum quickly faded, as a string of poor performances in recent weeks put increasing pressure on his position.
The final blow came with a heavy 3–0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night. After the match, Rosenior openly criticised his players, questioning their attitude, spirit, and determination, and admitting the performance fell well short of the club’s standards.
His comments appeared to hasten internal discussions, amid growing concerns over inconsistency and the team’s inability to meet expectations.
The decision arrives at a crucial stage of the season, with Chelsea still in contention for European qualification and aiming to progress further in the FA Cup.
To steady the team, the club has appointed under-21s head coach Calum McFarlane as interim manager until the end of the campaign. He will work alongside the current backroom staff as the club pushes for a top-seven finish and cup success.
Chelsea also confirmed it will begin a thorough review process to identify a long-term successor, signalling a desire for stability after another managerial change in a turbulent period.
Rosenior’s departure is expected to come with significant financial implications, with reports suggesting compensation could reach up to £24 million due to his contract, which ran until 2032.
Despite the circumstances, the club wished him well in his future endeavours
