As part of intensified efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across Lagos State, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has conducted a large-scale operation targeting identified criminal hotspots, illegal settlements, and hideouts throughout the state, resulting in the arrest of 279 suspected offenders.
While presenting the suspects at the Agency’s headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, the General Manager of LNSA, Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan, FISN, issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stressing that Lagos will remain hostile territory for anyone seeking to engage in unlawful activities.

Oyekan explained that the operation, which commenced late Sunday and continued into Monday, formed part of the State Government’s ongoing security strategy aimed at eliminating criminal activities and preserving peace across the metropolis. He noted that the exercise was intelligence-led, relying on information gathered through the Agency’s network of community informants and field operatives to pinpoint areas known for criminal activity.
According to the General Manager, the operation led to the apprehension of 279 suspects, comprising 274 men and five women from various parts of the country. The suspects were arrested for offences ranging from theft and disorderly conduct to other alleged criminal acts. He added that several of those detained were unable to provide valid identification or verifiable residential addresses.
Oyekan further disclosed that some individuals arrested for causing public disturbances were allegedly among those who entered Lagos using trucks and vehicles commonly employed for transporting livestock and goods. He emphasized that although every Nigerian is constitutionally entitled to live and move freely across the country, the state will not condone any conduct capable of threatening the safety and security of residents.
He stated that the operation aligns with the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat to sustain Lagos’ reputation as one of Nigeria’s safest and most secure states despite its rapidly expanding population.
“Through strategic intelligence gathering and close collaboration with other security agencies, we will continue to ensure that law-abiding residents enjoy a safe environment while those involved in criminal activities have no refuge in Lagos,” he said.
The LNSA chief also revealed that two suspects were arrested while allegedly attempting to steal a submersible water pump from a residential property. In addition, several others were found in possession of dangerous weapons, including machetes and knives, as well as suspected illicit substances and other prohibited items.
Reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, Oyekan stated that similar operations would continue across the state in partnership with relevant security and law enforcement agencies to strengthen public safety and maintain order.
