Former President Goodluck Jonathan
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party headed by Kabiru Turaki has announced that former President Goodluck Jonathan will not undergo the party’s screening exercise ahead of its presidential primary.
A member of the screening panel, Babangida Aliyu, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja.

The announcement follows renewed reports that Jonathan has already secured the PDP presidential nomination form in preparation for the 2027 election.
Umar Sani, former senior special assistant on media and publicity to ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, disclosed that Jonathan had begun making moves that indicate his intention to contest.
“He has already purchased the nomination form and is set to publicly submit it soon,” Sani stated during an interview on Trust TV on Tuesday.
He explained that the lingering internal disputes within the PDP may be responsible for Jonathan’s delay in officially declaring his ambition.
Sani also rejected claims that the party was only leveraging Jonathan’s popularity to regain political relevance, insisting that many Nigerians still hold favourable memories of his administration.
“We are convinced that Jonathan remains the best option for the country at this point in time,” he added.
He further argued that any court action challenging Jonathan’s eligibility to seek the presidency again would not succeed, noting that the matter had previously been resolved by the judiciary.
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015 before he was defeated in the 2015 presidential election by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
