Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a public holiday to allow civil servants and other public sector employees to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the governorship election.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, who said the work-free day is intended to give eligible public workers enough time to collect their PVCs before the distribution exercise ends.

According to the statement, the directive was communicated through an official circular to all public institutions, stressing that the holiday is aimed at encouraging civil servants to fulfil their civic responsibility in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election and future electoral exercises in the state.
The circular, however, exempted workers providing essential services, including healthcare personnel and security operatives, advising them to make internal arrangements that would allow them to collect their voter cards without disrupting critical public services.
Governor Adeleke also appealed to civil servants, as well as workers in the informal sector, to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their PVCs, describing next month’s governorship election as crucial to the future of Osun State.
“I urge every registered voter to visit the designated collection centres without further delay. Your vote is your voice, and your Permanent Voter Card is the key that gives you access to the ballot and the opportunity to shape the future of our state,” the statement said.
