The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) is set to officially introduce Stephen Maziva Mangongo as the federation’s new Head Coach and High-Performance Manager at an unveiling ceremony scheduled for today in Lagos.
Mangongo will begin his role on July 1, 2026, under a three-year agreement designed to strengthen Nigeria’s cricket development framework and improve the nation’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Widely regarded as an experienced and accomplished cricket tactician, Mangongo holds an ICC Level 3 coaching certification and brings years of expertise in coaching and player development across various levels of the sport.
Throughout his career, he has managed Zimbabwe’s U-15 and U-19 sides, the Zimbabwe A Team, as well as the senior men’s national team, playing a key role in talent grooming and the establishment of effective high-performance systems.
President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Uyi Akpata, described the appointment as an important move in the federation’s long-term strategy to build a sustainable cricket structure capable of producing top-quality players and highly competitive national teams.
According to Akpata, Nigerian cricket must continue embracing professionalism and higher standards if it hopes to compete successfully with leading cricket nations around the world.
Mangongo is expected to meet and observe some of Nigeria’s top cricket talents during the ongoing Nigeria Super League taking place in Lagos before his official presentation to stakeholders later today at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval.
In his dual role as Head Coach and High-Performance Manager, Mangongo brings more than three decades of experience, technical knowledge and proven success in elite player development and cricket administration.
During his tenure, he will oversee the technical growth of the national teams, coordinate coach development initiatives, manage player pathways and implement high-performance programmes aimed at boosting Nigeria’s ranking and reputation in international cricket.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation reiterated its commitment to expanding grassroots participation, strengthening cricket development nationwide and positioning Nigeria among Africa’s leading cricket nations.
