Prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment scene gathered on Wednesday to pay their last respects to beloved actor Alex Ekubo during a solemn service of songs held in his honour
Central Voyage News had earlier reported that the actor passed away on May 11, 2026, following a prolonged battle with kidney cancer.

The memorial ceremony took place at The Monarch Event Centre, where family members, colleagues, friends, and notable personalities appeared in all-white attire in accordance with the wishes of the Ekubo family.
Among those present were Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, Nkechi Blessing, Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi, IK Ogbonna, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, music star Chike, and socialite Cubana Chief Priest.
The evening was marked by heartfelt worship sessions led by gospel artistes Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs. Renowned ministers Pastor Jerry Eze, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings also offered prayers and spiritual ministrations.
Prior to the event, the Ekubo family released an obituary notice via the late actor’s Instagram account, expressing gratitude for the support received and requesting continued prayers during this difficult period.
The service of songs officially signalled the commencement of Ekubo’s funeral activities.
The burial programme will continue in Abia State, where a wake-keep is scheduled for June 17, while the final interment will take place on June 18.
