Sokoto Backs New Police Commissioner, Pledges Intensified Fight Against Insecurity
The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its determination to tackle insecurity, pledging full support for the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa.
The move forms part of renewed efforts to curb banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across the state.
In a statement released on Monday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Ahmed Usman (retd.), described the appointment as a strategic step aimed at strengthening existing security frameworks and consolidating recent gains.
He noted that Shaffa’s deployment comes at a critical time and aligns with the government’s resolve to reinforce its security architecture while sustaining pressure on criminal elements.

The government also urged the new commissioner to build on existing progress by prioritizing intelligence-led operations and deepening collaboration with local communities. He was encouraged to strengthen intelligence gathering, promote community policing, and maintain consistent pressure on criminal networks threatening peace in the state.
While acknowledging the progress recorded in recent months, the government stressed that much work still lies ahead to fully restore stability in affected areas. It assured residents that it would continue to provide the necessary logistics and an enabling environment for security agencies to succeed.
The state further commended the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, who has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. His tenure was described as impactful, marked by professionalism, improved inter-agency coordination, and notable contributions to the state’s security achievements.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on crime, the government called on residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
It concluded with optimism that CP Shaffa’s leadership would play a crucial role in advancing Sokoto’s security objectives and sustaining the momentum in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
