The Ondo State Police Command on Monday strengthened security arrangements in Akure ahead of the visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is expected to inaugurate the Onyearugbulem Flyover constructed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
During the visit, Shettima is also scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Afenifere leader, Ruben Fasoranti, as part of activities marking his 100th birthday celebration.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said extensive security measures had been put in place to guarantee the safety of the vice president and ensure a peaceful event.
According to him, the police command has deployed adequate security personnel and tactical units across strategic locations in Akure.
He explained that the security arrangement includes personnel from the Police Mobile Force, tactical squads, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear units.
Jimoh stated that the objective was to prevent any security threat and ensure that the activities proceeded smoothly without disruption.
NAN reports that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Amotekun Corps were also stationed at major roads leading to Fasoranti’s residence.
The Onyearugbulem Flyover project was inaugurated by the late former governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in July 2023.
