The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has refuted claims circulating online about its passport application and payment system, describing them as inaccurate, deceptive, and likely to mislead the public.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Monday, the agency reaffirmed that its digital passport process is safe and functions solely through its authorised portal.

It stressed that the NIS runs a secure, transparent, and government-approved passport application system, accessible only via its official website.
According to the service, the portal remains the only recognised channel for all passport applications and payments, both for Nigerians within the country and those abroad.
The agency warned that any other platforms offering such services should be regarded as fraudulent.
Addressing rumours linking a religious body or private organisation to its payment system, the NIS firmly denied any such association.
“At no time has the Service authorised or partnered with any religious group, private organisation, or individual to act as an intermediary or collect payments on its behalf,” the statement said.
It further dismissed the ongoing allegations as entirely baseless.
“Claims suggesting that the name of a religious organisation appears in the Service’s payment process are completely false and do not represent the structure, integrity, or operations of the NIS,” it added.
The agency noted that it has launched an investigation into the source of the misinformation and warned that those responsible would face appropriate sanctions.
The NIS also advised the public to depend only on its official communication channels and to avoid using unofficial links or middlemen when processing passport applications.
