Each family package covers four members, accounting for 960 beneficiaries, while the remaining 360 are individual participants, bringing the total to 1,320.
Speaking at the launch on Monday, the Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Bashir Are, underscored the need for accessible healthcare and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to enhance residents’ welfare through targeted initiatives.
Are noted that the enrolment exercise took place simultaneously over the weekend at selected centres in Lagos Central, Lagos East, and Lagos West.
He explained that activities in Lagos Central were conducted at a Local Council Area, Lagos East at the Ikorodu Local Government Office, and Lagos West at the Agege Youth Centre.
According to him, the authority fully sponsored the beneficiaries’ insurance premiums for one year, describing the initiative as a groundbreaking intervention.
He also expressed confidence that the programme’s success would pave the way for its continuation and possible expansion in the future.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary and CEO of the Lagos State Health Management Agency, Emmanuella Zamba, outlined the broad range of healthcare services included in the coverage.
She encouraged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the scheme and assured them of quality care at accredited health facilities across the state.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority matters and the Deputy Chairman of the APC in Lagos State, both of whom praised the initiative as a people-focused effort aligned with the government’s healthcare objectives.
Beyond the insurance registration, beneficiaries also received free basic medical checks, including blood pressure and fasting blood sugar tests, highlighting the programme’s preventive health approach.
Organisers said the initiative demonstrates the state government’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage and improving living standards through sustainable healthcare partnerships.
The programme comes at a time of rising healthcare costs and reflects renewed efforts by the Lagos State Government to broaden access to affordable medical services through its ILERA EKO scheme.
