A delegation from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), headed by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General I.M. Abdullahi, on Sunday paid condolence visits to the family of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.) and the Katsina State Government following the retired senior officer’s passing.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West), Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the delegation delivered the sympathies of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General O.O. Oluyede, and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to both the bereaved family and the people of Katsina State.

While addressing family members at the deceased’s residence in Katsina, Major General Abdullahi described the late officer as a committed patriot who dedicated his life to national service and distinguished himself throughout an illustrious military career.
He noted that Major General Abubakar played a significant role in strengthening the Nigerian Army and contributing to the nation’s security framework through decades of exemplary service.
The army chief further assured the family of the military’s support and solidarity during their period of grief.
He stated that the late general served the country honourably for more than 30 years, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, discipline, and dedication that would continue to inspire serving and future members of the Armed Forces.
As part of the tribute, the delegation presented a national flag to the family in recognition of the late officer’s commitment and sacrifice to the nation.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, the Gado da Masun Katsina, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their show of compassion and support.
He thanked the military leadership for standing with the family during the difficult period and offered prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased.
Earlier, the delegation visited the Katsina State Government House, where they were received by Deputy Governor Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe, representing Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
During the meeting, Major General Abdullahi formally conveyed the condolences of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces to the state government and people of Katsina over the loss of one of the state’s most respected military figures.
In his response, the deputy governor described the late Major General Abubakar’s death as a significant loss not only to Katsina State but also to the entire nation.
He noted that the retired officer’s dedication to safeguarding the country and serving the public would remain an enduring example for younger generations.
Mallam Jobe also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among government agencies, security institutions, and communities to effectively tackle insecurity and criminal activities across the state and the wider North-West region.
He reaffirmed the Katsina State Government’s commitment to supporting military operations aimed at enhancing peace, security, and stability.
In his remarks, Major General Abdullahi commended the state government for its continued partnership with the military, stressing that sustained cooperation between civil authorities and security agencies remains essential to overcoming security challenges and achieving lasting peace.
Special prayers were held at both the family residence and the Government House for the repose of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar.
The delegation included Major General W.B. Idris, Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma; Major General B.P. Koughna, General Officer Commanding 8 Division; Rear Admiral A.M. Haruna; Air Vice Marshal A.Y. Abdullahi; Major General J.S. Bindawa (retd.); Brigadier General S.K. Usman (retd.); and Air Vice Marshal I.S. Kaita (retd.).
Also in attendance were members of the deceased’s family, traditional leaders, and several prominent indigenes of Katsina State who joined in honouring the late military officer.
