President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

According to the statement, the move underscores the administration’s resolve to strengthen internal security coordination, improve intelligence-led operations, and deepen collaboration among security agencies in addressing evolving threats nationwide.
Akume described Fadewa as a distinguished retired military officer with more than 30 years of experience spanning military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security planning, and international security relations.
The statement noted that Fadewa played a significant role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination system during his tenure as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.
“He led the creation of the Intelligence Fusion Centre within the Office of the National Security Adviser, establishing a unified multi-agency intelligence platform involving the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to strengthen threat analysis and coordinated response efforts,” the statement said.
Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he contributed to policy discussions on policing, civil-security partnerships, and national security reforms.
He is also recognised for authoring a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which the Presidency said provides practical recommendations for improving cooperation between civilian institutions and security agencies.
Akume stated that President Tinubu believes the retired general’s appointment will reinforce the administration’s drive toward a safer and more secure country through stronger homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management.
“President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointment of Major General Fadewa (retd) will further strengthen the administration’s efforts at achieving improved national security through enhanced coordination of homeland security initiatives and intelligence sharing,” the statement added.
The President also urged the new adviser to deploy his expertise and strategic experience in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Nigeria has in recent years witnessed growing security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes across several regions, leading to increased calls for stronger intelligence-sharing and better inter-agency cooperation.
The newly created role marks the first appointment of its kind in the country’s history.
