The Lagos State Government has warned motorists travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to expect temporary traffic disruptions for two weeks beginning Tuesday, July 28, as repair work commences on the expansion joint of the Kara Bridge.
The rehabilitation project, being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works, is aimed at strengthening the bridge and improving safety for road users.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the current four-lane section of the road would be narrowed to two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre stretch to create a safe working area for the repairs.
He appealed to motorists to remain patient, follow traffic guidelines, and cooperate with officials assigned to manage movement around the affected area.
“Motorists should expect some level of traffic disruption around the Kara axis during the period of the rehabilitation. They are advised to be patient, obey traffic rules, and work with traffic management personnel deployed along the route,” Osiyemi said.
The commissioner added that some level of congestion was expected around the Fatgbems Turn area, as some drivers might attempt U-turns or use alternative routes to avoid delays.
He, however, assured commuters heading towards Ibadan beyond Fatgbems Turn that traffic flow would remain largely unaffected.
The warning comes ahead of the 74th Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), scheduled for August 3 to 9, which is expected to increase traffic volume along the expressway corridor.
The ministry advised road users to plan their trips in advance, explore alternative routes where necessary, and adhere to traffic instructions from officials during the repair period.
Osiyemi thanked motorists and residents for their cooperation, stressing that the project would help improve the bridge’s safety, reliability, and lifespan for all users.
