FirstBank has officially confirmed Olayinka Ijabiyi as its substantive Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, with the appointment taking immediate effect. The move underscores the bank’s commitment to strong corporate governance as it advances its growth and transformation agenda.
Ijabiyi is an experienced marketing and communications expert with over 25 years of experience spanning financial services, telecommunications, media, and international development, where he has driven brand growth, visibility, and stakeholder engagement.

He joined FirstBank in 2011 and had been serving in an acting capacity as Group Head since December 2024 before his confirmation. In his current role, he is responsible for shaping and implementing integrated marketing and communications strategies across the bank’s operations. His portfolio includes brand and reputation management, executive positioning, corporate responsibility and sustainability, as well as strategic communications aligned with the bank’s objectives.
Over the years, Ijabiyi has held several key leadership roles within the bank, including Head of Brand Strategy and Special Projects, Head of Digital Marketing, and Head of Brand and Stakeholder Management.
Before joining FirstBank, he built a broad career across organisations such as the British Council, MultiChoice, MTN, and Etisalat Nigeria, contributing to brand development, corporate communications, and digital transformation efforts.
Known for his strategic insight and leadership, Ijabiyi has successfully led major brand initiatives, including milestone campaigns and brand repositioning projects, while enhancing brand value and operational efficiency.
He holds a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Lagos and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the former Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti. He is also a Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, among other professional affiliations.
