President John Mahama has approved the urgent evacuation of 300 Ghanaian citizens from South Africa amid renewed xenophobic violence targeting foreigners.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the development in a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday.

According to Ablakwa, the affected nationals had earlier responded to an advisory issued by the Foreign Ministry and registered with the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria for evacuation support.
He stated that President Mahama had authorised immediate action to rescue the citizens following the latest outbreak of xenophobic attacks in parts of South Africa.
The minister assured that the Ghanaian government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and security of its citizens both within and outside the country.
The evacuation follows reports of attacks and intimidation directed at foreign-owned businesses, particularly in areas including KwaZulu-Natal and Durban.
