This decision aligns with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which allows for the expansion of the existing academy in Wudil, Kano State, into multiple campuses nationwide.
The approved funds will be drawn from the 2026 TETFund allocation and used to develop key infrastructure, academic buildings, student hostels, and essential training facilities.
In a statement, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that the decision followed a high-level meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, officials from the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.
The statement explained that Erinja was selected after careful consideration of factors such as student admission capacity, available funding, academic standards, and the future needs of the Nigerian Police Force, especially as recruitment efforts increase.
It added that President Tinubu is confident the expansion will improve institutional management, enhance modern police training, and boost national security.
