The Nasarawa State Police Command has recovered 174 rounds of ammunition believed to be intended for AK-47 rifles and arrested a suspect in connection with the illegal consignment.
The operation, which police described as a significant success in the fight against arms trafficking and crime, led to the arrest of Abubakar Abdullahi.

According to police authorities, Abdullahi was apprehended by officers attached to the Toto Division during a routine patrol along the Toto-Abaji Road on June 22, 2026.
The command’s spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia.
Nansel stated that a search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of 174 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, a calibre commonly used in AK-47 rifles.
He noted that the suspect was unable to give a convincing explanation regarding the origin, ownership, or intended destination of the ammunition.
“The suspect failed to provide satisfactory details about how he came into possession of the ammunition,” the statement noted.
Police said the suspect remains in custody while investigators work to identify and dismantle the network responsible for the illegal movement of the ammunition and track down other individuals linked to the operation.
The command described the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms and ammunition, which security analysts have identified as a major contributor to violent crimes and insecurity.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reiterated the command’s determination to combat criminal activities across the state.
He warned individuals involved in unlawful acts to abandon such activities or face prosecution.
“There is no hiding place for criminals in Nasarawa State. We will continue to pursue, identify and prosecute anyone found violating the law,” the police commissioner said.
Mohammed added that the command has strengthened intelligence gathering, surveillance operations, and strategic security deployments to prevent criminal groups from operating within the state.
He assured residents of the police force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, encouraging them to go about their daily activities without fear.
The commissioner also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in preventing crime and improving security.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach to crime, pledging to continue deploying all lawful measures necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of residents throughout the state.
