Plateau Massacre: ‘I Saw Your Pain,’ Tinubu Consoles Grieving Mother in Viral Video
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday comforted a grieving mother captured in a viral video clutching the lifeless body of her son after a recent attack in Jos, Plateau State.
During a condolence visit to the state, the President addressed the woman by name, referencing the widely circulated footage that showed her anguish following the killings in the Angwan Rukuba area.
“I understand your pain. I saw in the video how you held your son, Ayuba, and the depth of your grief. Only God can grant you comfort and restore your joy,” Tinubu said while speaking to victims’ families and community representatives.
He acknowledged that no compensation could truly make up for the loss of lives but assured them of the government’s support.
“No amount of money can replace your loved ones, but as a government, we will do everything possible to support and comfort you,” he added.
Tinubu arrived in Jos earlier on Thursday, days after Sunday’s attack in the Angwan Rukuba district, which claimed at least 27 lives.
He was received at the airport by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and other senior government officials.
In a statement issued through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the attacks as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice.
While denouncing the violence, he also cautioned against framing the incidents along religious lines, warning that such narratives could further escalate tensions.
The President had earlier condemned both the Jos attack and a separate incident in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.
