The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a targeted air operation against a terrorist base in Katsina State, destroying a major hideout and eliminating several insurgents.
This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday in Abuja by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
Ejodame explained that the mission took place on May 1 as part of the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, focusing on a site within the Dan-Aji Forest in Faskari Local Government Area.
He noted that the location served as a strategic logistics centre linked to a suspected terrorist leader, Abasu Aiki, and his fighters active around the Faskari, Kankara, and Funtua areas.
According to him, intelligence reports pointed to a resurgence of terrorist operations in the region, which led to the airstrike.
“NAF aircraft tracked armed fighters on motorcycles along with other terrorists within the camp and carried out a coordinated attack on the target.
“Post-strike assessment showed that several insurgents were killed, while the logistics base and nearby structures were completely destroyed,” he said.
Ejodame further stated that the strike caused secondary explosions and extensive fires, weakening the group’s operational strength.
He added that the mission has greatly hindered the movement and supply chain of the terrorists in the area.
He emphasised that the operation highlights the NAF’s determination to eliminate terrorist safe havens and dismantle their networks.
