Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday in Ibadan, officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde secured victory in the Oyo State governorship elections held in 1999 and 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The faction of the PDP loyal to Makinde also confirmed a political alliance with the APM, where his preferred aspirant, Abimbola Adekanmbi, is expected to run for governor during the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the announcement during a Unity Rally organised jointly by both parties to formally unveil their partnership.
The governor urged opposition figures across the country to come together against what he described as the ruling All Progressives Congress’ attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party system.
According to him, the nation’s political environment no longer provides fair democratic space for opposition parties to operate freely without interference from the ruling party.
Makinde called on Nigerians to stop watching from the sidelines and actively participate in the democratic process, expressing confidence that collective voter action could bring about major political change in 2027.
The leaders of the Makinde-led PDP bloc and the national leadership of the APM, headed by its National Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, earlier met at the PDP South-West Secretariat in Ibadan, where they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cement the alliance.
The leaders later moved to Mapo Hall, where thousands of Makinde’s supporters gathered as he formally declared his presidential ambition.
The alliance now suggests that candidates aligned with Makinde’s PDP faction in the 2027 elections will contest under the APM platform.
