Leaders and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their preferred candidate for the 2027 Senate race.
The decision was announced on Monday during a large gathering at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, which brought together party chieftains and grassroots representatives from across the district.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, the meeting attracted members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, current and former local government chairmen, past and serving lawmakers at both state and federal levels, councillors from all wards, as well as youth and women leaders.
The statement added that attendees included ward executives, local government officials, members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, former legislators, and members of the Elders Advisory Council.
Addressing the gathering, former Ogun East senator, Lekan Mustapha, said the endorsement was based on a shared belief in Abiodun’s ability to effectively represent the district in the Senate.
He noted that party leaders would formally convey the decision to the governor and demonstrate their support by purchasing his nomination forms ahead of the 2027 election.
“We will constitute a delegation to inform the governor of his adoption as our consensus candidate,” he said.
In his remarks, Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as unanimous and significant, citing the governor’s performance and leadership within the party as key factors.
“This decision reflects our collective confidence that Prince Dapo Abiodun is best suited for the Senate seat,” he said.
Also speaking, a member of the House of Representatives representing Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, Femi Ogunbanwo, praised the governor’s achievements, noting that his administration has promoted stability and development across the state. He expressed optimism that Abiodun would deliver greater benefits to Ogun East at the national level.
Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, also lauded the governor’s performance and urged him to accept the call to contest.
The meeting reportedly had full participation from all 103 councillors across the nine local governments in Ogun East, along with youth leaders and grassroots mobilisers.
Other prominent figures in attendance included Senator Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and party elders such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo, Durojaye, Pegba Otemolu, James Dina, and Osibote Amoran.
Also present were the party’s Publicity Secretary, Femi Nuberu, alongside Adesola Elegbeji, Joseph Adegbesan, and Femi Ogunbanwo, all members of the House of Representatives.
