“Avenge Your Death”: Grieving Jos Mother Places Cutlass in Son’s Coffin
Mrs Favour Ayuba, mother of the late Promise, who was reportedly killed by suspected terrorists in Jos, Plateau State, has expressed deep anguish, urging her deceased son to avenge his death.
In a viral video obtained by one of our correspondents on Friday, the grieving mother, speaking with intense emotion, revealed that she had not eaten since the Palm Sunday attack that claimed her son’s life.

Mrs Ayuba had earlier appeared in another viral clip, weeping uncontrollably as she held the lifeless body of her son, who was fatally struck by gunfire during the attack.
The latest wave of violence in Plateau State occurred on March 29, Palm Sunday, in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area. Gunmen reportedly stormed the community, killing at least 24 people and leaving many others injured.
In the more recent video, Mrs Ayuba, speaking in Hausa, brought out a cutlass wrapped in white cloth, which she had concealed beneath her clothing. She then placed it inside her son’s coffin, symbolically calling for vengeance.
“If you want me to find peace, my child, avenge your death,” she said. “I carried you in my womb for nine months and nursed you as a baby. I trust you to fight for me. Wherever they are, go after them and avenge your death.”
Amid sobs heard in the background, she referenced the biblical story of Gideon, who went to battle and returned victorious.
“Today is your birthday,” she continued. “I thank God for your life. You never liked seeing me cry, and I will try not to weep for you. I have not eaten since Sunday, but from today, I promise I will eat. I have a gift for you, my child. I named you Promise Gideon Ayuba, after Gideon in the Bible, who went to war and came back victorious,” she added.
