The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has praised the successful rescue of 360 individuals who were kidnapped by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State. He also urged authorities to intensify efforts to free other Nigerians still being held captive by insurgents and criminal gangs across the country.
The rescue followed an earlier attack by Boko Haram fighters on a military facility in Ngoshe. During the assault, operational vehicles were destroyed, security personnel were forced to retreat, several people were killed, and many residents were taken hostage.

In a statement posted on his X account on Monday, Atiku described the rescue as welcome news for both the victims and their families, who had endured months of anxiety since the abduction took place in March.
“I am delighted by reports confirming the rescue of 360 people who were kidnapped by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State,” he said.
“While this marks the end of a painful experience for the victims and brings relief to their families, the nation still faces serious security challenges posed by terrorism and banditry.”
The former Vice President commended the military and other security agencies for their role in the operation, noting that their dedication made the rescue mission successful.
“I commend the military and all security operatives whose efforts contributed to the safe return of the Ngoshe victims,” he stated.
Atiku expressed optimism that Nigeria’s armed forces have the capacity to overcome insurgency if they receive adequate resources and decisive political support.
“I believe our military can successfully end the insurgency that has persisted for nearly two decades if equipped with the right tools and backed by effective leadership,” he said.
He also appealed to the government and security agencies to remain committed to securing the release of other abducted citizens, including the schoolchildren and teachers reportedly kidnapped in Oriire, Oyo State, and Mussa, Borno State.
“Even as we celebrate this achievement, I urge the government and military authorities to step up efforts to rescue the nearly 100 students and teachers abducted in Oriire and Mussa, as well as all other Nigerians currently being held by terrorists and bandits,” he added.
The former vice president further advocated reforms within Nigeria’s security framework, emphasizing the importance of intelligence gathering, modern technology, and proactive measures aimed at preventing attacks before they occur.
“Most importantly, our security structure must be overhauled to prioritize intelligence-driven operations, technological advancement, and preventive strategies capable of stopping terrorist and bandit attacks before they happen,” Atiku said.
