The Lagos State Government has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly referred to as the Junior WAEC, will hold from June 29 to July 6, 2026.
The disclosure was made on Thursday by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board.

According to the board, candidates across the state will begin the examination on Monday, June 29, with the exercise scheduled to conclude on Monday, July 6, 2026.
The Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, described the BECE as an important benchmark in the academic development of students.
He noted that the examination represents a crucial step in the educational advancement of learners throughout the state.
Orunsolu advised parents, guardians, and school authorities to study the examination timetable carefully and adhere to all instructions and regulations issued by the board.
He explained that the BECE serves as the official assessment required for students moving from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School in both public and accredited private institutions across Lagos State.
According to him, the examination remains the recognized pathway for eligible students seeking promotion to the next level of secondary education.
The registrar also stressed the need for thorough preparation, urging schools to ensure that all qualified candidates are adequately equipped and meet the necessary requirements before the examination begins.
He further reassured stakeholders that all logistical and administrative arrangements have been finalized to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free conduct of the examination across the state.
