Suspected kidnappers have abducted a resident and fatally wounded another during an attack on a residential neighbourhood near the Quarry area along Arab Road in Kubwa, a satellite town within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident reportedly occurred between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.

Residents told journalists that the victim who sustained gunshot injuries during the attack later died while receiving treatment at a hospital on Sunday.
Speaking on Monday, the community secretary, identified simply as Dairo, said residents were alerted by the sound of gunfire as the armed men allegedly infiltrated the area through a nearby hill.
According to him, local security operatives responded immediately and engaged the attackers in a shootout in an attempt to prevent them from gaining access to the community.
“We heard repeated gunshots coming from the direction of the hill. Since my residence is not far from the area, I gathered that our local security team confronted the attackers and exchanged fire with them,” he said.
Despite the resistance, the assailants reportedly forced their way into the residence of one of the victims.
“During the confrontation, they managed to enter the house. They shot one of the occupants and kidnapped his younger brother,” Dairo explained.
He stated that security personnel from the police arrived after the attackers had already escaped with the abducted resident.
“The police came sometime after midnight, but by then the kidnappers had already left. They entered through the hill and used the same route to escape,” he added.
Dairo noted that the latest incident marked the third successful kidnapping operation carried out in the community through the same route in recent years.
“This is not the first time we have experienced such an attack. The kidnappers have used that hill to gain access to the community on several occasions,” he said.
He recalled an earlier incident around 2021 or 2022 when a member of the National Youth Service Corps was abducted and another resident, identified as Mr. Oshodi, lost his life during the attack.
The community leader further revealed that another resident was kidnapped in May 2025 and was only released after a ransom payment was made.
According to him, suspected kidnappers also attempted to invade the area a few weeks ago but were successfully repelled by local vigilantes and hunters.
“About two or three weeks ago, they tried to enter the community, but our local security team prevented them from carrying out their plan,” he said.
Dairo disclosed that residents had organised a community-based security network made up of vigilantes and hunters to complement official security efforts.
“Our vigilantes and hunters have been working tirelessly to protect the area and respond whenever threats emerge,” he stated.
He appealed to the government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area by establishing a police post or increasing routine patrols.
“If there is a police station or regular patrol presence around here, it will discourage criminals from targeting the community. Visible security operations can make a significant difference,” he said.
Another resident, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the victim who was rushed to the hospital after the attack later died from his injuries.
“The young man did not survive. He passed away after he was taken to the hospital. May his soul rest in peace,” the resident said.
Attempts to obtain an official response from the FCT Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls placed to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, could not be connected at the time of filing this report.
