The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that political parties will receive official access codes on June 26 to facilitate the submission of details of candidates who emerged from their recently concluded primary elections.
The disclosure was made by the commission’s chairman, Joash Amupitan, during a meeting with leaders of registered political parties held in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Amupitan, the access codes will enable political parties to upload the particulars of their nominated candidates to INEC’s designated portal as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The INEC chairman also expressed concern over the growing number of internal disputes and court cases involving political parties, describing the trend as a major distraction to the commission’s election planning activities.
He noted that persistent intra-party conflicts have continued to divert attention from critical electoral preparations and urged political stakeholders to resolve their differences through established democratic processes.
Amupitan further reminded political parties of the importance of complying with electoral regulations and guidelines, stressing that the credibility and success of the 2027 polls would depend largely on the commitment of all stakeholders to uphold the rules governing the electoral process.
He emphasized that adherence to electoral laws, transparency in party activities, and respect for due process would contribute significantly to the conduct of peaceful, free, and credible elections across the country.
The INEC boss therefore called on political parties and their leaderships to work collaboratively with the commission to ensure a smooth and successful electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
