Dangote Industries Limited has begun preliminary arrangements for the development of a deep-sea port covering more than 10,000 hectares within the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State, as part of efforts to expand its footprint in logistics, maritime infrastructure and export-driven industrialisation.
In a statement, the company explained that the multi-billion-dollar venture is designed to position the group as a globally competitive industrial and manufacturing powerhouse under its Vision 2030 strategy.

The proposed seaport, situated in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State and stretching toward Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State along the Atlantic coast, is expected to function as a major logistics and industrial centre for imports, exports and regional commerce.
A delegation from the company, headed by the Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics at Dangote Industries Limited, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, recently visited host communities in Ogun and Ondo states to begin consultations with stakeholders ahead of the project’s takeoff.
Speaking during the engagement, Abubakar said the initiative would bring significant economic transformation to host communities while boosting Africa’s maritime trade potential.
“The Olokola Port project represents a significant move toward unlocking Nigeria’s economic opportunities, improving trade activities, easing congestion at existing ports and promoting industrial expansion. It will provide employment opportunities, stimulate businesses and support sustainable development across Ogun and Ondo states.
“Given its strategic location, Olokola will become an important gateway for imports and exports, strengthening Nigeria’s position in regional and international trade.
The project demonstrates our commitment to delivering infrastructure that will positively impact both communities and the wider economy,” he stated.
He further noted that the deep-sea port is being conceived as a logistics hub for an integrated industrial ecosystem that will improve Africa’s trade and supply chain network.
According to him, the facility will facilitate the export of fertilisers, petrochemicals and refined petroleum products, while also supporting future liquefied natural gas exports and the importation of heavy-duty industrial machinery.
He assured residents that the company would sustain regular engagement with host communities throughout the project’s execution.
As part of the preliminary activities, the Dangote delegation, alongside surveyors and environmental experts, visited Ode-Omi community in Ogun State, as well as Araromi Seaside Kingdom and Igbokoda in Ondo State.
The Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan (Oshotekun II), welcomed the development and pledged the community’s cooperation.
“We have looked forward to this moment for a long time. It is encouraging to see you here now. Carry out the project successfully, and everyone will benefit,” the monarch said.
The traditional ruler also authorised the commencement of surveys and other initial activities, including the documentation of households, economic trees and compensation procedures for affected residents.
In the same vein, the Alara of Araromi Seaside Kingdom, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, expressed optimism about the project while addressing the delegation.
“We are eager to see this project begin. You have our physical and spiritual backing. Even if it starts tomorrow, you are welcome,” the monarch remarked.
The team also paid a visit to the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State, where the Acting Commanding Officer, Lt. Commander A.A. Makinwa, assured the company of the Navy’s support in advancing national economic interests.
Dangote Industries stated that the proposed port would create jobs, attract foreign investments and stimulate growth in sectors including manufacturing, logistics and services.
The company added that the project would further strengthen Nigeria’s export diversification agenda and enhance participation in intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
