Union Bank of Nigeria has strengthened its reputation as a major supporter of Nigerian entrepreneurs after winning the Best SME Growth Banking Initiatives Award 2025 at the Nigeria National SME Business Awards held in Lagos.
The award, presented by the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), recognised the bank’s leadership in promoting the growth and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises through innovative financial solutions tailored to business expansion and long-term development.

Speaking while receiving the award on behalf of the bank, Ayokunnumi Abraham, Head of SME Segment at Union Bank, described the recognition as proof of the bank’s dedication to empowering SMEs across the country.
He explained that the bank remains focused on making financial services easier, quicker and more accessible for business owners.
According to him, improvements made to the bank’s specialised digital platforms, including Union360, have significantly reduced customer onboarding time and improved transaction efficiency for SMEs.
He added that the upgrades have encouraged greater digital banking adoption among customers while also helping the bank attract more business clients.
Abraham stated that Union Bank would continue to provide practical and customer-focused solutions aimed at helping Nigerian businesses succeed.
The event was organised by ASBON in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment and brought together key players from both the public and private sectors to celebrate organisations and individuals contributing positively to Nigeria’s SME sector.
