Armed attackers have reportedly killed five individuals, including a traditional ruler, his wife, their son, and two other residents in Olegabulu community, located in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack occurred on Thursday night at about 8 p.m., when the assailants invaded the community.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that four men riding on two motorcycles arrived at the monarch’s residence, where they shot him and two members of his family.

“The attackers were not Fulani. When they got off their motorcycles, they greeted people around in our local dialect, so no one suspected any danger,” the source said.
“It was only after they entered the traditional ruler’s house and started shooting that people realised what was happening and fled for safety.
“They operated for nearly 20 minutes. After attacking the monarch’s residence, they proceeded to a nearby house and killed two more people.”
The Chairman of the local government, Melvin Ejeh, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation on Friday, stating that five people lost their lives while one person sustained injuries. He added that police officers had visited the scene.
“It is true the attack occurred. Five people were killed and one person was injured,” Ejeh said.
When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had yet to receive an official report on the incident.
“I have not received the report yet, but I am expecting it,” Edet stated
