The Nigerian Army on Wednesday interred Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Captain Ismail, and several other troops who lost their lives in a recent insurgent assault in Borno State.
The burial took place at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, where the fallen officers and soldiers were honoured with full military rites.
They were killed on April 9 during coordinated attacks by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province fighters on military formations in Benisheikh, a key town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway.
In a statement shared via its official Facebook page, the Army described the ceremony as sombre and deeply emotional.
“In a solemn and poignant ceremony held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the nation bade farewell to Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
“The burial, conducted at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State, was marked by grief, honour, and reflection,” the statement noted.
It added that the deceased were accorded full military honours in recognition of their dedication and service to the country.
“Their sacrifice highlights the immense cost borne daily by members of the Armed Forces in protecting the peace, unity, and security of Nigeria,” it stated.
Among those present were Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and other top-ranking military officials.
They paid tribute to the fallen personnel, describing them as heroes who gave their lives in defence of the nation.
Prayers were said for the departed, while citations of their service records were read in the presence of their families.
The Army further acknowledged the profound grief of the bereaved families, noting that their loss reflects the human toll of the country’s ongoing security challenges, even as the courage of the fallen remains a source of national pride.
