Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu
Former Minister of Power and 2027 governorship hopeful under the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, on Wednesday met with APC ward executives from the state’s 33 local government areas as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots support for his ambition.
Addressing party officials at the Jogor Centre along Liberty Road in Ibadan, Adelabu said rebuilding the party from the grassroots would be key to APC’s return to power in 2027.

He described grassroots members as the foundation of the party and vital contributors to effective governance, noting that meaningful development cannot be achieved without active community participation.
The former minister, who recently stepped down from the Federal Government to focus on his governorship aspiration, had earlier met with members of the APC state executive council on Tuesday, where he formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking at the APC secretariat in Oke-Ado, Adelabu expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket and winning the election, while opposing any attempt to impose a consensus candidate.
He explained that the visit was intended to officially inform party leaders of his ambition and reaffirm his loyalty to the APC and commitment to the development of Oyo State.
His declaration came amid recent endorsements of Sharafadeen Alli by some APC stakeholders as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race.
Speaking further on Wednesday, Adelabu stressed that ward executives remain the closest connection between the party and the people, adding that their influence in policy direction and political mobilisation is crucial.
According to him, sustainable development must begin at the community level where governance has direct impact, adding that his 2027 agenda is centred on inclusive growth driven by grassroots involvement.
He appealed for the support of ward executives, assuring them that he would not disappoint the people of the state if elected governor.
Adelabu also urged party leaders across the local governments to remain united and committed to progressive ideals, maintaining that APC’s chances in 2027 would largely depend on the strength of its grassroots structure.
He pledged to maintain regular engagement with party officials and involve them in party activities, promising that their support would play a major role in both his campaign and governance plans if he emerges victorious.
The governorship aspirant further assured party members of improved welfare and greater inclusion in decision-making if elected.
Reacting, APC leader from Akinyele Local Government, Isiaka Alimi, praised Adelabu for his commitment to the party and urged members and residents of the state to back his ambition.
Similarly, APC chieftain from Ibadan North Local Government, Wale Sanusi, appealed to party faithful to support Adelabu, expressing confidence that he would deliver if elected in 2027.
