The Family and close associates of former President Muhammadu Buhari have established a foundation in his memory to uphold the ideals he championed during his lifetime.
The foundation was officially unveiled on Monday in Abuja during an event marking the first anniversary of Buhari’s passing.

Addressing attendees, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, urged public officials to adopt the late president’s virtues of integrity, modesty and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
Tinubu described Buhari as a devoted nationalist whose influence on Nigeria’s leadership remains significant even a year after his death. He noted that Buhari’s journey from military leadership to becoming a democratically elected president made him one of the nation’s most remarkable political personalities.
According to the president, Buhari’s unwavering commitment to his beliefs and his exemplary conduct throughout his years in public service stand out as his greatest achievements.
“President Buhari dedicated his entire life to serving Nigeria without seeking personal reward. He carried out his responsibilities with courage, conviction and an enduring love for his country,” Tinubu said.
The president added that Buhari continued to enjoy the respect and confidence of many Nigerians after leaving office because he built a reputation founded on honesty, discipline and integrity.
Tinubu also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting former First Lady Aisha Buhari and the Buhari family.
Former Head of State Yakubu Gowon observed that the impressive attendance at Buhari’s burial demonstrated the deep respect and admiration he commanded both across Nigeria and internationally.
Speaking at the event, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, explained that the newly established foundation was created by Buhari’s family and associates to preserve his enduring legacy of service, sacrifice and commitment to national development.
Mustapha stressed that preserving the values Buhari stood for should not be left solely to political leaders but should be embraced by every Nigerian committed to peace, unity and the country’s progress.
