President Bola Tinubu has formally named Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The decision follows weeks of speculation suggesting the President could replace Shettima as part of his political strategy ahead of the next general election.

Questions over Shettima’s place on the ticket intensified after some influential figures within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly from the North-East, declined to publicly endorse him.
There had also been reports that Tinubu was considering selecting a northern Christian as his vice-presidential candidate.
Those reports have now been laid to rest, as preparations have been finalized for the official unveiling of Shettima as the Vice Presidential nominee.
The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, in a post on his X account.
According to Dare, “About now, at the Continental Hotel, Abuja, President Tinubu submits INEC nomination form to the APC NWC as Sole Presidential Candidate for the 2027 Elections.
“President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has equally tapped Kashim Shettima, the current Vice President and Senator, as his running mate for vice president in the 2027 election.”
