Canadian music star Drake pocketed more than $1 million on Sunday after Canada edged South Africa 1-0 in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter.
The Toronto native placed a $770,000 wager—worth over N1 billion—on Canada to secure victory, with the bet offering a total return of $1,001,000. Following Canada’s triumph, Drake walked away with an estimated profit of $231,000.

Before kickoff, the rapper disclosed on his Instagram page that the wager was prompted by a direct message from South African DJ Black Coffee.
“@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM I had to raise the STAKES,” Drake wrote while posting a screenshot of the bet.
The defeat ended South Africa’s most successful FIFA World Cup campaign in history. Bafana Bafana reached the knockout rounds for the first time after finishing second in Group A, having qualified for the expanded 2026 tournament ahead of Nigeria.
Coached by Hugo Broos, the South Africans impressed during the group stage, earning a decisive 1-0 victory over South Korea to advance from a group that also included co-hosts Mexico and Czechia.
Their memorable run, however, came to an agonising conclusion at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Midfielder Stephen Eustáquio struck a spectacular volley deep into second-half stoppage time to seal a 1-0 win for Canada and send the co-hosts into the Round of 16.
The victory also marked Canada’s first-ever appearance in the World Cup Round of 16.
Drake has built a reputation for making high-value sports wagers, regularly betting on major sporting events, including the NBA Finals, UFC championship bouts, boxing matches and international football competitions.
His latest gamble proved successful, delivering a total payout of $1,001,000 after staking $770,000 on Canada’s victory over South Africa.
