Victor Osimhen
Former Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC midfielder Emmanuel Petit has expressed confidence that Victor Osimhen has the mentality and presence to solve the club’s long-standing issues in the striker role, suggesting he could emulate club legend Didier Drogba.
Since Drogba’s exit, Chelsea have struggled to secure a dependable centre-forward, with several big-name arrivals failing to deliver consistently over time.

Osimhen, now playing for Galatasaray S.K. after his stint at SSC Napoli, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea reportedly keeping tabs on him.
Petit admitted he had expected the Nigerian striker to head to England after leaving Italy and was surprised by his decision to move to Turkey.
“Osimhen is performing well at Galatasaray, but I thought he would join the Premier League after Napoli. I’m not sure why he chose Turkey,” he said during an appearance on Andy’s Bet Club, as quoted by Goal.
He added that Chelsea’s continued struggles in the No. 9 position point to a lingering problem, but believes Osimhen has what it takes to change that narrative.
“Since Drogba left, it feels like there’s been a curse on Chelsea’s number nine. But Osimhen is different—he has a strong personality and the kind of character that could end that run.”
Petit also highlighted Osimhen’s playing style, describing him as a relentless and physically imposing forward who is difficult for defenders to contain.
“He’s a nightmare for defenders—very aggressive and driven. He’s always looking to prove himself. After leaving France for Napoli, he excelled in Italy. There were issues with the Napoli president, and then he moved to Galatasaray,” he said.
“I believe Osimhen still has many years at the top level. He has the mentality, personality, and background to thrive in the Premier League.”
Although Osimhen only made his permanent switch to Galatasaray last summer, speculation continues over a potential move to England, as Chelsea remain in search of a lasting solution to their attacking woes
